Looking Back On 25 Years Of Aviation Marketing

I’ve always loved aviation and began building my technical foundation, first as an aircraft mechanic in the Air Force, specializing in U2 aircraft and later as an A&P technician in the corporate world. In those days, we wore many hats, both of the technical type and the sales type. Later on, as VP of sales and marketing for a large MRO/FBO, and then as COO for the same company, I found myself as a regular consumer of aviation advertising and all related components – a client if you will.

In dealing with various advertising and marketing agencies over the years in these roles, one overwhelming feeling always remained; that existing agencies and consultants continued to not only get it wrong when it came to the specific technical nuances of corporate aviation advertising, but often placed the burden back on me, the client, to provide an inordinate amount of input to educate them. So I worked harder, even with these groups that were supposed to make my job easier.

After leaving the MRO business, I decided to address the specialized niche I had identified in my previous roles and started MAI in the spring of 1992. I started with a stated goal of satisfying the need for an “Aviation Specific” advertising agency.

Fast forward 25 years and the journey has been amazing and humbling. The challenges and successes a have been equally as high. As any owner can tell you, the ups and downs of a small business start-up are very real. Ours came quickly with a major flood in 1993 that forced our relocation off the Spirit Airport. Even after persevering through natural disasters, ever changing mediums, business sectors, target markets and of course the demographics have continued to keep it interesting.

Now, 25 years later, we are grateful to count ourselves among the few purely specialized aviation marketing and communications firms in the country. And even more grateful to continue to developing award-winning work with industry leading clients, serving a wide spectrum of segments within the industry.

But I think what I am most proud of is the relationships we’ve built over the last 25 years. Unlike general industry agencies, we have had some clients as long as 20 + years and we have continued to evolve with them every step of the way.

I am confident the next 25 years holds equal challenges and changes but the diverse and experienced MAI Team are up to it.

Having personally been involved in the aviation industry for the past 51 years one thing never changes.

I still love the smell of Jet fuel in the morning.

Fleet-wide Use of Eastman Turbo Oil 2380 Brings Stability In Harsh Operating Environment

An Oil For The Long Haul
Fleet-wide use of Eastman Turbo Oil 2380 brings stability in harsh operating environment

Kingsport, TN, July 14, 2015 – The Arctic Circle can produce some of the harshest operating conditions for all types of aircraft. Due to the dangerously cold temperatures and a constant threat of ice, the performance reliability of the aircraft may be more vital in this region than any other.

Widerøe, the largest regional airline in Scandinavia, trusts the reliability of their aircraft performance, in part, to Eastman Turbo Oil 2380.

677003

For more than 80 years, Widerøe has been operating throughout the Arctic Circle to provide their customers with service to more than twice as many airports in Norway than any other airline.

Operating from Bodø, Norway, Widerøe’s fleet consists of 41 Bombardier Dash-8 turbo-prop aircraft, all of which must operate in conditions well north of home base and often to remote locations.

Widerøe is currently utilizing Eastman Turbo Oil 2380 in their engines, fleet-wide, and has come to depend on the product’s superior low temperature characteristics, load-carrying capability, cleanliness and elastomer compatibility to keep their aircraft running at the highest performance level possible while they complete more than 450 flights a day.

“We operate one of the most experienced PW100/ PW150 fleets in the world,” said Kjell Litangen, engineering manager, Widerøe. “Couple that with the harsh conditions we operate in every day, we have to be constantly focused on the performance reliability of our aircraft.”

“We have used Eastman Turbo Oil 2380 in our fleet for decades and have come to trust the reliability and proven performance of our aircraft while using the product,” concluded Litangen.

Rodger Harris, global commercial director, Eastman Aviation Solutions said, “Widerøe is an impressive example of an airline that has been able to operate successfully in a harsh and challenging environment.”

“Widerøe’s extensive history in the region coupled with the proven reliability of Eastman Turbo Oil 2380 has cultivated a strong and successful partnership over the years. We look forward to supporting the company and their fleet well into the future,” concluded Mr. Harris.

One of the most widely used turbine oils in the commercial aviation industry, Eastman Turbo Oil 2380, has been in service for half a century and was among the first turbine oils to be qualified and approved for MIL-PRF-23699 STD (Standard) class and subsequently SAE AS5780 SPC (Standard Performance Capability) class. EFA (English Field Aviation) Launches Charity Flight Program

Program aims to support customers engaged in charitable flying by offsetting maintenance costs

In an effort to give back to the aviation community and support King Air customers engaged in charitable flying, EFA (English Field Aviation) has launched a Charity Flight Exchange program, which will run until the end of 2015. During that time EFA will donate one hour of labor for each charitable flight hour flown in a customer’s King Air. The donated labor hours can be used for any King Air phase inspection completed at EFA. Customers can earn up to 25 hours per aircraft per year.

The new Charity Flight program reinforces EFA’s dedication to giving back to the industry and mirrors the desire to keep processes as simple as possible for customers.

“Our company motto is “We Get It,” says Travis Lamance, Co-Owner & General Manager, EFA. “Our customers already have so much to deal with in terms of regulations, from the FAA, OSHA, and the EPA. We want to make it as simple and painless as possible for our customers to maintain their aircraft.”

“We carried that simplicity into this charity program in hopes that it will support King Air operators who are already engaged in charity flying or would like to be, by offsetting some of their maintenance costs,” concluded Lamance.

In order to participate in the program, customers should bring official documentation of charitable flying hours performed in their King Air for any federally recognized non-profit organization when they arrive for their phase inspection.

Specializing in King Air aircraft, EFA (English Field Aviation) provides professional aircraft maintenance, avionics upgrades and inspections and refurbishment services. AvFab Receives STC Approval In Mexico For 2-Place Divan In Learjet Aircraft

62-0255K Learjet 2 Place Divan Completed

Aviation Fabricators (AvFab) recently received Mexican STC approval for the installation of their 2-Place side-facing Divan in Learjet 55, 55B, 55C, and 60 series aircraft.

The 2-Place Divan updates the aircraft by adding additional passenger space while giving the cabin a larger, more open look. The divan can be installed on either the left or right side of the aircraft and available options include armrests, drawers, and close out panels. Armrests can be added to either end of the divan.

There is no airframe modification necessary and installation is as simple as removing the existing seats/furnishings, and then placing the divan into the desired location by locking it into the seat tracks. Kits are usually in stock and available for immediate world-wide shipment. However, fluctuations in demand may cause up to a 30-day delivery time.

AvFab provides inspection, repair and overhaul of corporate and Special Mission aircraft interior parts and components, and is also an FAA-PMA producer of custom aircraft seating, parts and components.  AvFab’s sister company, Central Airmotive, is a comprehensive supplier of Original Equipment Manufacture interior products such as seats, divans, tables, toilets, cabinets and dividers.  Central Airmotive currently has over 90,000 sq. ft. of OEM seats and cabin components.  Together they represent a “one-source” solution to any corporate aircraft interior need.  For more information on this or any other product or service offered by AvFab, please visit their websites at www.kingairupdates.com and www.avfab.com or call 660-885-8317.

In an effort to strengthen their role as a trusted partner for the aviation industry, Eastman Aviation Solutions will continue the longstanding tradition of distributing the Turbine-Engined Fleets of the World’s Airlines guide. A complimentary copy of the comprehensive, up-to-date guide of the world’s turbine-engine aviation fleets can be requested by visiting www.EastmanAviationSolutions.com/TEF.

The guide is based on data collected from an annual survey of the world’s airlines and features an in-depth listing of the 57,000 turbine-engine equipped aircraft flying commercially today. This unique fleet guide is meant to be a valuable and useful resource for companies and individuals in the industry.

Previously produced by BP, the guide has been distributed every year since 1970. This year’s guide is the second edition to be published by Eastman Aviation Solutions since the aviation turbo oils business was acquired from BP in 2014.

“The past year has been an exciting time for aviation and for Eastman,” says Nick Cleary, technical services director, Eastman Aviation Solutions. “The industry has seen consolidation, record aircraft orders, increasing passenger demand, and the deliveries of new innovative aircraft, such as the Airbus A350 XWB and Boeing 787-9 with Eastman Turbo Oil 2197 lubricating the engine; so we are excited to release the 2015 guide.”

The Turbine-Engined Fleets of the World’s Airlines guide has been used to pinpoint emerging trends and transitions within the airline industry through documented changes in the survey data. In past years, the guide identified the substantial increase in the number of aircraft transitioning from standard engine oils to cleaner and more efficient options.

“As the industry continues to innovate and change, Eastman Aviation Solutions is committed to continuing our legacy and heritage as a trusted partner to airlines, OEMs and aviation professionals around the world,” added Rodger Harris, global commercial director, Eastman Aviation Solutions. “The guide has become a well known and sought after resource and tool for the aviation community, and we are proud to continue our support to the industry by producing and distributing the guide annually.”
